So far, undefeated ... but just barely.

Sequim's grapplers opened their season with a 40-39 win against North Kitsap that came down to tiebreakers, after both teams posted five pins, one by-points win and a forfeit.

Cody Field got Sequim's first pin, downing Arory Milvard in just 20 seconds. Kenny Henning (145 pounds) pinned his foe, Viking John Murphy, in just 49 seconds while 152-pounder Dakota Hinton pinned Joseph LaCourte in one minute, 39 seconds.

Joe Pizzuto, a transfer from Port Angeles, got a pin in his first match, putting Zach Moss to the mat in 45 seconds. Teammate Tommy Sund pinned Davien West in 1:11 of the first round.

Austin Middleton battled North's Mathew Moriarty to a 6-4 decision while Sequim's Clay Charlie fell to Jared House 7-6 in the only non-pin matches of the night.

The loss dropped North Kitsap to 0-3.

The Wolves wrestle in Silverdale on Dec. 16, taking on Olympic and North Mason in a double-dual match.

Sequim then gets a break until Jan. 6, when they wrestle at Port Angeles.

Wins rare at Blaine tourney

Sequim faced some of the toughest teams in the state last weekend, finishing 19th out of 20 teams at the Battle at the Border tournament in Blaine.

Sequim grapplers went 8-24 collectively in individual matches, failing to place in any weight class.

Sequim's Henning (145 pounds), Hinton (152) and Winston Babb (135) came the closest, each going 2-2 in their respective weight classes.

Babb earned pins of Chris Johnson of Kalama and Tanner Foster of Blaine.

Henning picked up pins of Cody Duke of Issaquah and Derek Troy of Mark Morris.

Hinton topped Jordan Ferrier 19-0 and pinned Issaquah's Taylor Evans in 24 seconds before dropping a 2-0 decision to Issaquah's Joseph Tonnemaker.

Middleton (130 pounds) and Kawika Yasumura (160) picked up Sequim's other wins.
