Peninsula earns 1-1 tie on road

First season, first point.

Freshman Jessica Farrell found the net and the Pirates held Edmonds to one score in a 1-1 nonconference draw on Sept. 5, giving Peninsula its first point after opening the season with a pair of losses.

Peninsula hosts Lane at 11 a.m. on Sept. 12, the Pirates' first conference contest.

Orcas edge Pirates

They got their first official goal, but Peninsula's women fell short of scoring their first win or draw in a 2-1 loss to Whatcom on Port Angeles on Sept. 2.

After giving up a penalty kick score just before halftime to Orca Danielle Lange, Peninsula got on the board at the 69-minute mark when Port Angeles native Neeya Hansen took a pass from Michelle Groshong (another P.A. native) and netted the ball for a 1-1 tie.

Whatcom got the game-winner at the 80th minute on an unassisted goal from Tanya Haggen.

"We had two breakdowns in the game," Peninsula head coach Kanyon Anderson said. "Unfortunately it cost us two goals"

Each team had eight shots on goal.

P.C. keeper Ashley Manker had three saves.

Everett shuts out P.C. in kick-off

In the inaugural match of Peninsula's women's soccer program, a sophomore-dominated Everett team played poor hosts in a 4-0 shutout on Aug. 31.

The Trojans scored early but the Pirates stepped up their defense and held the Trojans out of the goal for the rest of the first half to trail 1-0 at the break.

Everett then wore down the Pirates in the second half, finding the net three times to put the match out of reach.

Peninsula coaches said freshman midfielder Tabitha Bare played well in the center midfield for Peninsula while Groshong led the defensive effort for the Pirates.
