Sequim falls at Klahowya

Sequim's Wolves are looking to shake a bad streak after getting shut out by a pair of Olympic League foes last week.

The Olympic Trojans from Silverdale had no trouble making the adjustment from their artificial turf to

Sequim's natural grass, scoring twice in the first half and pouring it on in the second for a 5-0 win on Sept. 21.

Gabby Tyner had a hat trick (three scores) while Jalyn Halstead had a score and an assist for Olympic.

"We had a really good first half (but) we need to be playing more cohesive defense," Sequim coach Molly McAleer said. "It's going to take more training."

A bright spot for the Wolves was the strong play from goalkeeper Rachel Dewees, who missed all of training camp with an illness and made more than a half-dozen stops that kept the shutout from becoming a blowout.

"She had a phenomenal game," McAleer said of her keeper.

The Sequim coach said she felt her team showed some letdown in the second half -

a bad omen when matching up with some of the top teams in the league.

"This is the one time I said (to the team) 'I want to see more out of you,'" McAleer said.

Two days later, Klahowya - another Silverdale team - ripped their home nets for an 8-0 shutout.

Acaia Cook had a hat trick while Jordan Dixon had a score and two assists in the Eagle victory.

Sequim looked to rebound this week with games against 3A Bremerton (Sept. 28) and at 2A North Mason (Sept. 30). The Wolves host Kingston on Oct. 7.
