The road to a 2010 Olympic League cross country championship goes directly through the northern regions of Kitsap County.

Just ask Sequim.

The Wolves ran with two of the top 2A teams in the state last week, falling to both the Kingston Buccaneers and North Kitsap Vikings on Sept. 29 at Buck Lake County Park in Hansville, near Kingston.

On the boys' side, Kingston and North Kitsap finished with 37 team points, with Kingston winning by tiebreaker as their No. 6 runner finished before NK's sixth.

Sequim finished with 48 team points.

Alex Jenkins finished fourth overall in 12 minutes, 56 seconds. Adrian Clifford was seventh and Joel Christopher was eighth.

North Kitsap's Daniel Hansen won the boys' individual race with a 12:37 finish.

On the girls' side, Kingston (ranked No. 2 in the state poll) topped North Kitsap (ranked just outside the top 10) by six points (29 to 35) while Sequim finished a distant third with 64 team points.

Sequim senior Audrey Lichten was fifth overall (14:29), with teammate Jasmine McMullin was ninth (16:28) and Heather Murray was 15th (17:24).

Kingston's Marina Roberts won the girls' individual race with a 14:09 finish.

The Wolves are in Port Townsend on Oct. 6 to face the host Redskins and Olympic Trojans.
