Wolves find net in losses

It may be late in the season, but these Wolves are figuring out how to get on the scoreboard.

Sequim's girls soccer squad netted four goals in a pair of losses to league foes Port Angeles and Olympic last week.

On Oct. 19, Sequim twice trimmed a Port Angeles Roughrider lead to a single goal before finally falling 5-3.

Port Angeles took a 2-1 lead in the first half off goals from Tori Holcomb and Shayla Bowman. Sequim junior Kristen Phifer had a score in the 12th minute.

Kylee Jeffers made it 3-1 Port Angeles early in the second half before

Sequim freshman Makayla Bentz closed the gap with a score. Jeffers scored again to make it 4-2 Port Angeles, but Sequim answered again as sophomore Kayla Hagberg set up freshman Sara Hutchison for her first goal of the season.

P.A.'s Kathryn Mosely sealed the win a few minutes later with a score.

Sequim found the competition even tougher two days later in a 7-1 loss to Olympic. Phifer once again got on the board early for the Wolves, scoring in the sixth minute. The Trojans scored seven unanswered goals, however, including three from Gabby Tyner, her 16th, 17th and 18th scores of the season.

The Wolves were scheduled to close out the 2010 season Oct. 26 at home against league-leading Klahowya - results of the game were unavailable at press time.
