Sequim's own Bodystrong Taekwon-do Academy attended the Region 1 tournament on Nov. 13 at La Center, taking home 14 medals and a grand champion plaque.

Nine-year-old Holly Gauthun received Junior Grand Champion, the first Bodystrong Taekwon-do student to receive such an award. Grand Champion awards are calculated by adding the total scores together from patterns, sparring and breaking events. She earned gold medals in patterns and breaking.

In the junior sparring, Bodystrong athletes took first (Hanna Patterson), second (Gauthun) and third places (Madeline Patterson).

Hanna Patterson, 11, also earned a gold in patterns while Madeline Patterson, 9, took home a silver medal in patterns and bronze in sparring.

Joseph Golbeck earned a gold in breaking, silver in wall kick and bronze in sparring.

Aaron Russell, 18, earned a silver medal in patterns and bronze in breaking.

Randy Johnston, 33, won a gold medal in breaking and bronze in patterns.
