Soccer academy to open

The Peninsula Soccer Academy, open to boys and girls ages 7-14, has opened registration through www.portangelessoccer.com.

The academy is a developmental program to increase youths’ soccer skills and knowledge, focusing on drills and fundamentals. Coaches and players from Peninsula College lead the academy, along with adult volunteers from the Port Angeles Youth Soccer club.

The academy starts on Monday, April 11, and ends Thursday, June 2. Players ages 7-10 play from 5:30-7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. Players ages 11-14 play from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. All play is on the new turf fields at Peninsula College in Port Angeles.

The academy does not feature teams. Twice in the season, organizers host a jamboree where youths are placed on small teams to show off their skills in a competitive format. The first jamboree is April 30-May 1, and the second is June 4-5.

Cost is $55 per player.

For more information, send an e-mail to pasoccer@gmail.com.

The academy is a joint venture between Port Angeles Youth Soccer Club and Peninsula College Soccer programs.
