SkyRidge hosts Winter Links Open
SkyRidge Golf Course hosts the 27-Hole Winter Links Open, a four-person team competition, at 8:30 a.m. (barring frost) Saturday, Feb. 5, at 7015 Old Olympic Highway, Sequim.
Cost is $160 per team for golf, food, range balls, four KPs and competition money. Optional honey pots are $80; cart seats are $15 each. The first nine holes are a two-person scramble. Team members then switch partners for the next nine holes and again for the final nine holes.

Anglers’ auction is Thursday

Puget Sound Anglers — North Olympic Peninsula Chapter holds its annual fundraising auction and dinner on Thursday, Jan. 20. Doors open at 5 p.m. and a spaghetti dinner is served starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Guy Cole Convention Center in Carrie Blake Park, 202 Blake Ave., Sequim.
Auction proceeds fund the annual Olympic Peninsula Kids Fishing Program on May 21 at the Sequim water reclamation pond.

HotSpot hoops all set

The Port Angeles Recreation Department hosts the 2011 HotSpot Basketball Competition, scheduled to start at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, at the Vern Burton gymnasium, 308 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
The HotSpot program is a basketball skills competition involving shooting from five spots on the basketball court for three, one-minute periods.
There are divisions for boys and girls from ages 7-14 (as of March 31).
There is no charge to participate. Winners advance to the state competition, set for March 20 in Lacey.

Walkers explore Fort Townsend

Olympic Peninsula Explorers invites the public to a walk at Fort Townsend on Saturday, Jan. 22.
The walk is either five or 10 kilometers (about 3.1 or 6.2 miles).
Participants are asked to meet at 9 a.m. at the Subway restaurant, 1300 Water St., Port Townsend. The group will drive from there to Fort Townsend State Park.
Baby joggers are OK but wheelchairs are not recommended for either walk.
The route includes views atop a 150-foot cliff overlooking Admiralty Inlet, Port Townsend Bay and the Cascades mountain range.

Roller derby squad takes on Brawlers

The Port Scandalous Roller Derby, a women’s flat-track roller derby team from the Olympic Peninsula, hosts an intrasquad match between the Red Devil Darlins and the Black Betty Brawlers in the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, set for 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at Olympic Skate Center, 707 S. Chase St., Port Angeles.
Doors open at 5 p.m.
Tickets are $7 at Salon 13, 521 S. Sequim Ave. in Sequim or online at www.brownpapertickets.com, or $10 at the door.
The team will collect canned food for local food banks at the event.
