Register for P.T. Rhody Run

Registrations for Port Townsend’s Rhody Run XXXIII already are arriving, though the May 22 race date is three months away.

Through the Rhody Run website, more than 130 registrations have been logged for the annual 12-kilometer race. A special incentive discount fee is in effect through March 1 for early registrants using the website, Little said.

In 2010, the second largest number of finishers was recorded when 2,469 competed.

Leading up to race day, the Port Townsend Marathon Association launches a three-run training series and other conditioning events in Jefferson County.

On March 5, a three-mile run/walk starts at 9 a.m. from Evergreen Fitness Center in the Glen Cove Industrial Park complex, following the roadway to and from Old Fort Townsend Park. A five-mile run/walk is scheduled April 2, and the series concludes May 7 with a seven-mile training event.

Both the five- and seven-mile courses follow portions of the Larry Scott Trail and also start/finish at Evergreen Fitness Center.

“The series is open to everyone, but we especially invite those preparing for the Rhody Run to join us,” race director Jeni Little said.

Little also announced that the Port Townsend Athletic Club and Evergreen Fitness are conducting conditioning programs aimed at getting participants ready for Rhody Run XXXIII. Both local businesses are reducing their usual training rate by 40 percent. For conditioning program scholarship information, contact Little at

Martin Musson of Evergreen Fitness is the instructor for a semi-weekly program beginning March 28. Class times are determined by participants. For details go to or call 385-3036.

The Port Townsend Athletic Club offers a Rhody Run Boot Camp from 5:45-6:45 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning April 11. To register, go to or call 360-385-6560.

Between March 1-May 20, the adult entry fee is $30; youths $12. The 12K run on a certified course is sanctioned by the USA Track and Field organization.
