Lea Hopson has her mind set on a career in construction management.

In her years at Sequim High School she’s been busy building an impressive resumé on the softball diamond.

The high school senior recently received a full-ride scholarship to play softball at the College of Southern Idaho (CSI) in Twin Falls.

Hopson said she picked the school for its degree offerings — specifically, construction management — and because of Twin Falls.

“It’s the size of P.A. and Sequim combined — like a little town, a homey feeling,” Hopson said. “I don’t like big towns.”

The infielder certainly played big in her first three seasons with the Wolves. As a freshman, she hit .326 and crushed two home runs, then was named to the all-league first team as an infielder in

her sophomore season.

As a junior, she was named co-MVP of the Olympic League after hitting .720 with 13 home runs, 46 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .750 in 16 league games.

Hopson hopes to help lead the Wolves further into the postseason this spring after Sequim fell short of the state tourney last season.

“We have pretty high standards,” Hopson said. “We’re going to work hard and go a lot further than we did last year.”

Hopson said she’s not sure what position she’ll play at Southern Idaho, whether it’s her natural spot at shortstop or in the outfield.

“I don’t care — I like playing everywhere,” Hopson said.

“Except first base. And pitcher.”
