Local BMX riders kick-start season

On March 11, 10 Clallam County BMX riders participated in the first Washington 2012 SCR qualifier at the Peninsula Indoor BMX track in Port Orchard, with Larry Moroles bringing home the only first-place of the day.

Another 10 riders traveled to Redmond, Ore., for the Great Northwest National April 13-15. Bringing home trophies were Adam Finch (26-30 Cruiser) with a second-place on Saturday and a first on Sunday.

Jennifer Spencer (26-30 Girls Cruiser) and George Williams (61 & older Cruiser) finished third both days. Geri Thompson, Port Angeles BMX track operator took second on Saturday (51 & over Girls Cruiser class) and fourth in the younger 46-50 Girls Cruiser class on Sunday.

Kris Young-Tofanelli Sr. (19-27 class), who is just getting back into BMX, took fourth place on Saturday.

Other riders participating at the national event were Taylor Tolliver, Anthony Johnson, Tee-Jay Johnson, Zach Slota and Zach Warren, who had to pull out Sunday after crashing on Saturday.

“It was great racing to watch,” Thompson said.

Port Angeles BMX Track started its season on April 19.
