Girls tennis: Chan, Hanson take league doubles title

Their quest for another state berth is well under way.

Sequim High senior Katrina Chan and Stacy Hanson swept through all four matches without losing a set on their way to an Olympic League tournament doubles title on May 7 at North Kitsap High School in Poulsbo, earning a top seed to the district tourney.

The West Central District tourney is May 12 and May 18-19 at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma.

Chan and Hanson beat top-seeded Erica Daniels and Lindsey Wicklein of Kingston in the league final, 7-5 and 7-5.

Sequim’s second doubles squad, Anna Prorok and Hillary Smith, are a five-seed after going 4-2 at the league tourney. They face the No. 5 seed from the South Puget Sound League for a district tourney berth.

Smith and Prorok needed three sets to top Chelsea Drake and Jordi Fickas of Port Angeles (6-7, 7-5, 6-2).

Sequim singles entries, Melanie Guan and Hannah Gauthun, both went 1-2 and didn’t finish in the top six, getting eliminated from postseason play.

Chan and Hanson have advanced to the class 2A state tournament each of the last two years.

Tracy Landram of Klahowya didn’t lose a point in winning the league singles title.
