Sequim, P.A. squads get to ‘Roundball’ finals


Sequim’s fifth-grade basketball squad took top honors in its three-team division while the Sequim- and Port Angeles-based Avalanche team took second in the varsity division at the Port Angeles Recreation MayDay Roundball Tournament May 5-6.

The Avalanche squad, one that includes Sequim’s own Taylor Balkan and Caitlyn Stofferahn, topped Westside (Snohomish County) 39-23 in their opener. In game two, the Avalanche topped Team Fusion (Lake Stevens) 52-22 behind Balkan’s 14 points.

In the championship, the Avalanche saw a late lead slip in a 46-38 loss to the Portland Runnin’ Rebels. Kylee Jeffers led the Avalanche with 11 points in defeat.

Port Angeles Avalanche players include Jeffers, Krista Johnson, Bailee Jones, Macy Walker, Krissy Marvelle, Brittany Norberg, Shayla Northern and Paxton Rodocker.

Girls varsity division

Boys fifth-grade division

Boys sixth-grade division
1. Washington Warriors (Federal Way), 2. UBA (Bellingham), 3. Regulators (Bellingham), 4. Port Townsend, 5. Port Angeles, 6. North Kitsap Bulldogs. Championship game: Warriors 58, UBA 48.

Boys seventh-grade division
1. Swish White (Tacoma), 2. Team Washington (Tacoma), 3. Chaos (Kent), 4. UBA (Bellingham). Championship game: Swish White 57, Team Washington 26.

Boys eighth-grade division
1. Swish (Tacoma), 2. Chaos (Kent), 3. Yetis (Courtenay, B.C.), 4. UBA (Bellingham). Championship game: Swish 58, Chaos 50.

Boys junior varsity division
