Tennis: Sequim doubles team gets one win at state

The third time was nearly the charm.

But Sequim’s Katrina Chan and Stacy Hanson will have to settle for one win in three matches in their third state tourney appearance last weekend at Seattle’s Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Chan and Hanson, the West Central District champions, dropped their opening match to Jocelyn and Yanitta Cantu of Othello, 6-4 and 6-3.

The Sequim senior duo bounced back with a 6-4, 7-5 win against Olympic League rivals Marilyn Fick and Charlotte Kilborn of Kingston.

But Emma Scherschligt and Sam Simmons of East Valley (Yakima) kept Chan and Hanson just short of the medal stand with a 6-3, 6-2 decision.

The Sequim pair finishes with a 15-3 record for the season.
