MMA facility emerges in Port Angeles

 

For years, Olympic Peninsula athletes have trained to compete in one of the fastest-growing athletic endeavors in the country.

Now, local mixed martial arts enthusiasts will have another facility to grow their combat skills.

CageworX MMA hosts a grand opening on Saturday, June 23, at its facility at 103 Elwha Road in Port Angeles.

The business will offer classes seven days a week to all levels of competitors, in styles such as Brazilian jiujitsu, kickboxing, boxing, standard and women-only mixed martial arts and youth/teen level MMA.

"We are excited to be a part of the community and help to develop stronger, smarter and more well-balanced individuals," said Cody Houston of CageworX MMA.

Houston, one of the facility's coaches, holds a black belt in Brazilian jiujitsu has more than 16 years experience in kickboxing, boxing and martial arts.

Other coaches include Erik Gonzalez, head wrestling coach at Port Angeles High School and seasoned USA Boxing-certified coaches Jesse Banks and Paul Kendrick. Dave Holden is the facility owner.

Slated for the grand opening are three mini seminars, a raffle, a barbecue and live viewing of Ultimate Fighting Championship 147.
