Husky greats set for return to Sequim
No yardage markers, referees or screaming fans here — just long stretches of cropped green grass and a worthy cause.
The second Sonny Sixkiller Husky Celebrity Golf Classic is scheduled for Friday, July 27, at The Cedars at Dungeness golf course, with the former Husky QB great slated to host dozens of former U.W. football stars, including Bob Schloredt, Greg Lewis, Michael Jackson, Nesby Glasgow, Marques Tuiasosopo and Al Worley, and former coaches Don James and Jim Lambright.
Also participating is former Port Angeles High School player Scott Jones, the only Roughrider to have played in the NFL after a successful career as a tight end and offensive tackle at U.W.
The golf classic benefits the Olympic Medical Center Foundation.
Sixkiller often has been credited with turning around the Husky football program after leading the nation in passing in 1970.
He also was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated on Oct. 4, 1971. In a recent poll he was named one of the top 10 Pac-10 quarterbacks of all time.
The presenting tournament sponsor is Wilder Auto Center.
