Sequim stood its ground Thursday, March 28, against previously undefeated Olympic.

The Wolves led the physical matchup that involved some heated moments toward the end and a 2-0 Sequim victory.

Junior Lijah Sanford scored in the second half (45th minute) with an assist from Omar Flores to give their team a 1-0 lead.

Eleven minutes later Nicholas Baird intricately placed a corner kick into the upper left post for the 2-0 lead.

From here Olympic players became frustrated and one altercation delayed the game for a few minutes.

Sequim moves into second place at 5-2 with 17 points in the Olympic League behind the Trojans (6-1, 16 points) who are tied with North Kitsap (6-1, 18 points) for first.

The Wolves avenged a surprising 2-1 loss at last-place North Mason (3-4, 8 points) on March 26, which resulted in a shootout.

The Bulldogs’ Miguel Sabastian scored in the 55th minute with Sequim’s Cameron Chase returning the favor with an assist from Ron Welches (80th minute). The Wolves lost in the shootout 5-3.

Following spring break, Sequim visits North Kitsap on April 8.
