Rantz’s family keeps rowing tradition alive

Jen Huffman, 42, and 15-year-old Dana Huffman, members of the North Cascades Crew rowing club that trains on Lake Stevens, were featured recently in an article in the Everett Herald.

The Huffmans are the granddaughter and great-granddaughter of the late Joe Rantz, the former Sequim resident who was a member of the University of Washington crew that represented the United States at the 1936 Olympics.

Rantz’s story is captured in the recently published book, “The Boys in the Boat,” by Daniel James Brown. The book has spent 11 weeks on the New York Times bestseller nonfiction hardback cover list.

Rantz died in 2007.
