Women's soccer: Nelson helps P.C. edge Bellevue

A winning score in the first or last minute looks the same in the standings.

Peninsula got a goal from Larkyn Nelson in the 90th minute, helping the Pirates escape from Bellevue with a 1-0 victory and their unblemished conference record (10-0-0) intact.

Emily Flinn needed just one save to record the shutout, her fourth of the season.

Peninsula dominated play, peppering Bulldog goalkeeper Ali Mackey with shots; Mackey had 13 saves on the afternoon. Mackey and the Bellevue defense held tough until Alyssa Bertuleit found Nelson for the score.

Peninsula blanks Rangers

Friendly confines? You bet.

Peninsula's women feel right at home at Sigmar Field and showed it on Oct. 9, knocking off the upset-minded Olympic Rangers 2-0 after getting a score in each half.

Bri Afoa tallied a goal at the 12-minute mark and Annie Armstrong added a score at 62 minutes off a Bronte Fitzsimmons assist. The feed was Fitzsimmons' conference-leading 14th assist of the season.

Pirate Laura Morgan had three saves in goal for the shutout.

Looking ahead

The Pirates are in Longview to take on Lower Columbia today, Oct. 16. Peninsula hosts Tacoma on Saturday, Oct. 19, and plays at Highline (Tukwila) on Oct. 23.

The Pirates lead Highline by eight points in the West division standings with four games remaining.
