Men's soccer: Pirates power past Titans

It wasn't a proverbial walk in the park, but Peninsula got what it wanted at home against Tacoma on Saturday: a win and another home playoff game in the NWAACC playoffs.

Alex Martinez and Christian Martinez each had second half scores as the Pirates (9-0-1, 15-0-2) blanked Tacoma 2-0 on Oct. 19.

Alex Martinez opened the scoring when Christian Martinez found him for a score at the 57-minute mark. Christian Martinez made it 2-0 off an Erick Urzua assist about 12 minutes later.

Pirate keeper Angel Guerra made it stick, stopping nine Titan shots for the shutout, his conference-leading eighth of the campaign.

"Tacoma played very well today; they caused us a lot of trouble," Peninsula coach Andrew Chapman said.

"We finally started to move the ball late in the game and got the result we needed."
