Boys soccer: Wolves power past P.T. for league lead

In a four-team race, Sequim’s Wolves are putting themselves in the lead.

Thanks to a second half eruption of goals against Port Townsend on Friday night, the Wolves (11-2-0 in Olympic League play and overall) are in the top spot.

Adding to Brandon Payne’s first half score, Eli Berg, Tyler Ebert and Cameron Chase helped put the game out of reach with goals in the second frame.

Sequim also had a Port Townsend own-goal 10 minutes into the second half.

Redskin Max Meier trimmed Sequim’s lead in half with a goal at the 54-minute mark making it 2-1, but Berg followed with a penalty kick score 10 minutes later.

Nic Baird had two assists for the Wolves.

Sequim picked up a win in Bremerton on April 23, getting two scores each from Chase and Thomas Winfield. Berg doled out three assists.

The Wolves have a bye on April 29 before playing North Mason (3-10-0) on May 1.

Sequim hosts Olympic on May 5 before closing the regular season with a key match at North Kitsap on May 7.
