Wrestling ‘Challenge’ draws 48 grapplers

The 2014 Olympic Mountain Wrestling Freestyle Challenge drew 48 wrestlers from across the region to Port Angeles on Saturday, competing in 15 divisions.

From Sequim, Grant Pierson of topped the 125-pound high school division, with Alma Mendoza in second place.

Olympic Mountain Wrestling Club medalists included: Riley Gale (first, 13-year-old, 124 pounds); Liam Getzin (first, 10-year-old, 100 pounds); Israel Gonzalez (first, 10-year-old, 58 pounds); Jason Kibe (first, 11-year-old, 92 pounds); Cooper Nees (first, 5-year-old, 50 pounds); Josiah Sorensen (first, 12-year-old, 80 pounds); Roiel Sorensen (first, 10-year-old, 80 pounds); Skylar Cobb (second, 14-year-old, 160 pounds); Branden Currie (second, high school, 140 pounds); Jerry McCann (second, 10-year-old, 100 pounds); Ian Smithson (second, 6-year-old, 52 pounds).Also, Kaiden Sorensen (second, 5-year-old, 50 pounds); Caleb Joslin (third, high school, 140 pounds); Daimon Batchelor (third, high school, 150 pounds); Jordan Roark (third, 9-year-old/65 pounds) and Austin Bray (third, high school, 125 pounds).

Olympic Mountain Wrestling Club traveled to the Freestyle/Greco-Roman state tournament on May 3 at the Tacoma Dome.
