Wolves crush Forks in opener

So far, so good.
Sequim's fastpitch squad is 1-0 after dropping Forks 11-1 in five innings Tuesday in a non-league match-up.
Carly Swingle got the win on the mound, pitching all five innings and striking out 10 Spartans, walking just three. After giving up a run in the first, Swingle shut Forks down completely.
"I thought we played pretty well for a first game," Sequim coach Mel Hendrickson said. "Carly looked pretty sharp for her first outing (and) we hit the ball pretty hard. It's hard to say (how we did) because of what happened out at Forks."
The Spartans were missing several key players; a March 9 car crash took the life of 17-year-old Forks softball player Kassandra Hansen and FHS graduate Naomi Price, 18, and many current Spartans opted out of the game.
Sequim freshman Madison Zbaraschuk, playing shortstop instead of her preseason position of catcher, led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 day with a triple and two RBIs in her first varsity game. Chelsea Winfield had two hits drive in two runs while Swingle, Paige Seamands and Lisa Miller each had a hit and an RBI. Kathryn Roeber and Lea Hopson added hits in the win.
Sequim was scheduled to host Peninsula March 17 - results were unavailable at press time. The Wolves host Olympic March 19 and Klahowya March 21.
