As the name suggests, there was plenty of offense at Port Angeles Dick Brown Memorial Firecracker Classic baseball tournament during Independence Day weekend.
Sequims U-18 baseball squad saw a little of that offense as well, splitting their four games for a 2-2 record.
We beat the teams that we should beat and we lost to the teams that we probably should have lost to, head coach Dan Perry said. It was a good weekend were happy.
The Sequim team opened with an 18-0 loss on July 4 to the host Wilder Seniors, a loaded team that went on to take the tournament championship.
Sequim rebounded with a 10-1 crushing of South Kitsap on July 5.
On July 6, in the morning game, Sequim fell to tourney runner-ups Northwest Titans from Bothel, falling 12-0.
We played with them for three innings … and then bottom of third, they just started hitting, Perry said.
Sequim capped the tourney with a 10-7 win against the Wilder Junior squad, a team that features many of next springs Port Angeles High School varsity team, Perry noted. Down 1-0, Sequim scored six runs in the second inning thanks to RBI singles from Spencer Middleton, Ben Omdal, Isaac Yamamoto and Drew Rickerson, who earned the victory on the mound.
It was Sequims third win in five games against the junior P.A. squad.
Perry said he was pleased to get all 22 Sequim players some action during the weekend.
Sequim Senior Baseball is set to play four games at a Gig Harbor tournament beginning July 10, followed by a tourney in Puyallup and a doubleheader against South Kitsap squads in Sequim the week after that.
