What exactly is the exchange rate for a 50-point blowout?

For the Olympic Avalanche's Canadian opponents, not so good.

The Olympic Peninsula-based girls select squad ran roughshod through four north-of-the-border opponents in the eighth-grade division at the Island Shootout in Victoria, B.C., for the squad's fifth tourney championship of the season and the players' final action until the 2009-2010 campaign begins next fall.

"This is an amazing group of girls whose futures in basketball should be very bright," head coach Joe Marvelle said. "I was honored to coach them all."

The Avalanche went 4-0 at the tourney, beating opponents by an average of more than 55 points.

The Avalanche opened with a 74-22 thrashing of South Vancouver Island Basketball Academy. Krista Johnson led the charge with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Mariah Frazier added 20 points 10 rebounds. Alexas Besand also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

In game two, the Avalanche topped South Vancouver again, 83-33. Shayla Northern was Olympic's top scorer with 15 points while Frazier had 14 points and 13 rebounds. Johnson and Macy Walker each had fine all-around games: Johnson finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and five steals while Walker added eight points, seven rebounds, five steals and five assists. Haleigh Harrison scored 10 points while teammate Merissa Murner chipped in eight points.

In the semifinal against 3D Elite of Vancouver, Olympic blasted its Canadian foe 86-37 in their closest of four games. Frazier and Walker each scored 14 points while Lauren Aguirre had 11 points and seven rebounds.

In the championship game, the Avalanche rolled over Central Vancouver Island (Nanaimo, B.C.), 91-21. Johnson posted 16 points and 16 rebounds while Walker and Krissy Marvelle added 14 points each. Besand (12 points) and Harrison (11) each scored in double figures while Shayla Northern garnered 10 points and 15 rebounds.

The Olympic Avalanche went 35-16 in their 13 tournaments this season, taking home five tourney championships.
