Wolves slip vs. Trojans, Knights

Consider it a moral victory.
Sequim's Wolves were able to scratch out a point against prep bowling powerhouse Olympic in their Dec. 17 match-up in Port Angeles last week, knocking down 182 pins in a Baker-format game before falling 6-1 to the Trojans.
Sequim also saw four bowlers earn 290-pin-pus series. Unfortunately for the home team, each of Olympic's five varsity bowlers did the same, plus Audrey Deutsh bowled a game-high 416-pin series, 245 coming in the first game.
Hope Haabala led the Wolves with 318 pins, including 176 pins in game two, tops among all bowlers. Kim Duce (295 pins) Sam Whiteside (293) and Alex Whiteside (290) bolstered the Sequim squad.
The Wolves showed progress as the match wore on. After Olympic dominated game one 898-684, Sequim had a far better showing in losing game two, 780-715.
"We were right up with them in the first game until the seventh or eighth frame, and they just took off," Sequim coach Randy Perry said. "I was fairly happy with the total pin count."
Perry noted that only three teams from the Olympic League get a berth to the West Central District tourney. With Olympic and Bremerton likely locking up the top two spots, it'll be a battle among Sequim, Klahowya and North Mason for the final berth.
The Wolves are on holiday break until Jan. 6 when they host the Peninsula Seahawks.

For a moment, Sequim's squad was as good - no, better - than one of the top teams in the state.
But after the Wolves shocked Bremerton in game one (813-728), the Knights were lights-out the rest of the way, topping Sequim 5-2 at Laurel Lanes in Port Angeles on Dec. 15.
"The girls just couldn't focus enough in that second game," Perry said. "We're just not quite there yet."
Kim Duce led the Wolves with a 349-pin series, including 194 pins in game one, tops among all bowlers.
