Life atop the Olympic League standings just got a little more complicated.

Sequim had a chance to join three other teams with identical 6-2 league records last week but dropped a 50-44 decision to Olympic in Silverdale on Jan. 15.

Trent Gallagher scored 24 points and Larry Dixon added 10 points as the host Trojans overcame a five-point Sequim lead in the third period with an 11-0 run and held on for the victory.

Sequim shot just 4-of-16 in the final eight minutes.

John Textor led the Wolves with 17 points while Michael Dunning added 10 points in defeat.

The loss drops Sequim (5-3 in league, 5-6 overall) into a tie with Port Angeles, one game behind league leaders Bremerton, Kingston and North Mason.

On Friday evening, Kingston's Buccaneers knocked off Bremerton, North Mason topped North Kitsap and Port Angeles downed Klahowya to force the logjam.

Sequim was slated to play at Klahowya on Jan. 19, the second of nine consecutive road games for the Wolves - results were unavailable at press time.

The Wolves play at Bremerton on Jan. 22, at Port Townsend on Jan. 26 and at Kingston on Jan. 29.

Textor's freebies lift Wolves over Knights

Someone better check the fire code for Rick Kaps Gymnasium. The place is becoming quite the spot for barnburners.

Textor, a Sequim senior, sank a pair of free throws with five seconds left, pushing Sequim past league-leading Bremerton, 71-70, on Jan. 12.

Andrew Shadle had a chance to win it for Bremerton, but his 18-footer came up short at the buzzer.

Textor led Sequim with 19 points and two blocks while Corbin Webb hit for 17 points and five assists. Josh McMinn had a varsity career-high nine points while Clancy Catelli and Jeremie Oliver added eight points each.

Their efforts helped

Sequim overcome the monster game from Jarel Flora, who erupted for 28 points - 20 in the second half - and 16 rebounds. Terrick McGhee added 16 points and six steals.

The Knights dug themselves a huge hole in the first quarter after missing their first 19 shots from the field, giving Sequim a 14-5 advantage. But Bremerton chipped away, then used an 11-0 run in the third quarter for a 30-26 lead.

With the teams matching punch for punch (there were 12 ties in the game most of them late), the Knights took a three-point advantage with 40 seconds left before Sequim's Dunning sank a key three-point shot. After Bremerton's Flora hit just one of two free throws and just a few seconds left on the clock, the ball went to Oliver, who lost the handle. Textor recovered the ball and was fouled. He hit both ends of the one-and-one free throw bonus.

It was the second consecutive Sequim win in as many games, following Clancy Catelli's three-pointer to beat North Kitsap just four days earlier.
