A big fourth quarter rally pushed the Sequim Wolves boys past Port Townsend 45-41 Tuesday night at Bruce Blevins Gym in P.T., while Sequim’s girls fell 58-47 in a thrilling nightcap.
 
In the boys’ game, Sequim trailed the Redskins by nine points — 33-24 — going to the final period.
 
Sequim ratcheted up the defensive pressure and got some key inside-the-paint offensive work from sophomore Frank Catelli and junior Josh McMinn.
 
The Catelli-McMinn combo meshed for 11 fourth quarter points as the Wolves outscored Townsend 21-8 in the final stanza.
 
Catelli finished with a team-high 10 points while McMinn added nines points.
 
Sequim's Michael Dunning connected on a three-pointer with 1:43 left that put the Wolves ahead to stay at 40-39.
 
The Wolves clinched the game with 16 seconds left after John Textor hit a 35-footer from the right wing as the shot clock expired, giving Sequim a 44-39 advantage.
 
Sequim goes to 7-4 in league play and 7-7 overall. The Wolves, a game-and-a-half behind North Mason for the top 2A spot in league, play at Kingston Friday night.
 
Port Townsend falls to 3-8 in league, 3-9 overall.
 
SHS girls’ comeback falls short
In the girls’ game, Lea Hopson led the Wolves with 22 points as Sequim erased a 12-point halftime deficit to tie the game at 40-40 after three quarters.
 
But Port Townsend, led by surprise starter Kerri Evant’s 16 points, out-scored Sequim 18-7 in the final frame.
 
Rylleigh Zbaraschuk had 14 points for the Wolves and Haleigh Harrison added seven points.
 
Sequim’s girls fall to 0-11 in Olympic League play and 0-15 overall. The Wolves host Kingston, the league’s top 2A squad, on Friday evening.
 
Port Townsend is now 2-9 in league play, 3-12 overall.
