The WSU North Olympic Cougar Golf Tournament is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Sunday, Aug. 29, at SkyRidge Golf Course, 7015 Old Olympic Highway.
Play format is a four-person scramble.
Cost is $50 per person that includes a barbecue lunch at noon before play, range balls, prizes and closest-to-pin prizes.
Players need not have any affiliation with Washington State University to participate.

Free pocket-sized schedules for the 2010 Seattle Seahawks season are available at the Sequim Gazette office, 147 W. Washington St., while supplies last.
First x-country practice set
Sequim High School students interested in turning out for cross country are invited to the team's first practice, set for 4:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Railroad Bridge Park.
Subsequent practices times and locations will be addressed at that first practice.
Those turning out for the team are asked to bring their physical history and signed physical exam cards, and to be ready to run.

Gymnast group accepting registrations
Klahhane Gymnastics is accepting registration for fall gymnastics classes.
Classes begin Sept. 7.
Instruction is available weekdays and Saturdays for girls and boys ages 2 through high school at all skill levels, from preschool and recreational classes through USA Gymnastics Level 7 competitive teams.

Bike adventure set for Sept. 26
The annual Olympic Bike Adventure, a fundraiser for several local civic groups, is slated for Sunday, Sept. 26.
The event includes metric century (100 kilometers), 25-mile and 10-mile family-friendly rides.
Cost is $50 per adult or $25 for youths 12 years old or younger. Cost includes a ride T-shirt, lunch and ride shuttles.
Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club Foundation of the Olympic Peninsula,
Sequim Sunrise Rotary Club and Port Angeles Recreation Department.

Anglers talk Newton's Cove
The Puget Sound Anglers, North Olympic Peninsula Chapter, hosts a presentation by club members Tom Duttrey, Dave Croonquist and others who made a trip to Newton's Cove in Esperanza Inlet. Schmidt trio fares well at Angus show
Shannon, Jessica and Amanda Schmidt recently attended the 2010 National Angus Female Show in Denver, Colo.
Shannon's heifer PT Ideal Lollipop stood third in her class of 14. Jessica's heifer WaF Everelda Entense, stood fourth in her class of 10. Amanda's heifer PT Pracilla Uptown Girl, stood fourth in her class of nine.
Shannon and Jessica were chosen to represent Washington in the showmanship contest by winning at earlier junior Angus shows across the state. Jessica was named to compete in the top 15 showmen, the first time since 1960 that anyone from the state has advanced to the top 15. She was sixth in the nation out of a beginning class of 89. Shannon received an honorable mention for being in the top 25 showmen.
The Schmidt girls' grandparents are Roger and Ellie Schmidt, and Vickie Crane and Bill Schroepfer. Their great grandparents are Ray and Esther Nelson.
