Pirates sign all-state guard from Las Vegas

Mitrell Clark, a 5-foot 11-inch guard from El Dorado High School, signed a letter of intent and scholarship agreement to play at Peninsula College this season.
Clark is a 2009 high school graduate who earned Nevada Player of the Year honors over the likes of Elijah Johnson (University of Kansas) and Anthony Marshall (UNLV).
He also was first-team all-state during his senior season.
Peninsula coach Lance Von Vogt recruited the highly sought-after guard at Arizona Western College, where Clark started as a freshman, averaging nine points and four assists per game for the Matadors, leading them to a 24-win season.
"I have a long-standing relationship with Mitrell, and he has a chance to make a big impact," Von Vogt said. "He is a very athletic guard who makes good decisions and can really score the basketball. He shot over 40 percent from three as a freshman and has the ability to create his own shot when necessary. I am excited to have a player of this caliber in our program."
Clark collected over a half dozen NCAA Division I offers coming out of high school but chose junior college to brush up on his academics before going on to that level.
He joins Thad Vinson and Jerry Johnson in Von Vogt's initial recruiting class.
