The home cooking wasn't quite enough to help the Sequim Wolf Pack's varsity and junior varsity squads in the North Olympic Youth Football League semifinals in Sequim on Saturday.

Port Townsend topped the Sequim varsity squad 38-0 to end the top-rated varsity team's season one game short of the championship.

In JV action, Chimacum edged Sequim 14-13.

"We wish our SWP teams had won and were going to the championships but we are really proud of them for the showing they made in their inaugural year," Sequim Wolf Pack board member Dick Hughes said.

Sequim hosts league championship games on Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Sequim High School football stadium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

In the C-prep team final, Port Angeles Green takes on Neah Bay. Chimacum gets Port Townsend in the JV championship while the varsity title tilt sees another Chimacum/Port Townsend match-up.

Varsity wins in regular season final

Sequim Wolf Pack's varsity team walked away with a satisfying victory after Saturday's (Oct. 3) game against the Port Townsend Braves "A" Team making their first season a 6-1 triumph.

The team's one loss was their second game at Neah Bay in a driving rainstorm.

"That was before we had come together as a team," player Ben Hughes said.

Varsity coaches Rex Lott, Chuck Ellison, Carl Bernsten and Butch Thayer congratulated team members after their game. Lott gave special commendations to Matthew Sierra, Preston Richardson and Ian Dennis for their touchdowns, and Thomas Winfield for his critical pass reception that set up the team for its winning touchdown.

"You guys all played a great game," Lott said. "You should be proud of each other."
