It may be early but these Wolves are finding the net and netting wins quickly.

Sequim racked up three nonleague wins in the opening week, blasting Port Angeles 3-0 on March 12, edging Chimacum 2-1 on March 15 and blanking Port Townsend 4-0 on March 17.

In the season opener against the Roughriders, Sequim’s Waylon Lam, Nick Camporini and Saul Flores found the net.

Three days later, the Chimacum Cowboys gave Sequim a fight on the Wolves’ home turf. Mason Barrett found Lam for a score just before halftime to give Sequim a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Cowboys evened it up in the second half with a penalty kick score at 68 minutes, but Jacob DeWald found Camporini racing up the right side and he blasted it past the Chimacum keeper for the game-winner with just eight minutes remaining.

“We outclassed them, but they played hard, tackled hard,” Sequim coach Dave Brasher said. He noted that Chimacum’s starting goalie made about eight nice saves before leaving the game after taking a knee to the chin.

“I knew they’d play with a lot of heart, which they did,” Brasher said of the Chimacum crew.

Brasher credited the new, young Sequim defensive line — Barrett, Alex Lopez, Lijah Sanford and Irons Ring — for limiting the Cowboys to one goal.

Port Townsend was no match for a Sequim crew that was shorthanded thanks to a band concert the same evening. The Wolves got goals: Lam, Beau Little, Omar Flores and Saul Flores.

Sequim was slated to play North Kitsap on March 22 — results were not available at press time. The Wolves host Bremerton March 24, the first league contest of the young season, before playing a nonleague game at Auburn-Mountainview.
