It may not be home, but the Olympic League’s No. 3 team found the Kitsap County Fairgrounds quite inviting last week.

 

Sequim batters broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run fifth inning and got a complete game six-hitter from junior Tyler Campbell as they topped Lindbergh’s Eagles 7-2 on May 6.

 

The win and a rain-out the next day against Kingston gave Sequim a No. 6 seed going into the class 2A West Central District II tournament starting May 10.

 

Sequim senior Weston Royall had three hits — a home run and two doubles — while teammates Karsten Wake (double, RBI) and Drew Rickerson (1-for-2, three runs scored) helped pace the offense. Campbell struck out five and walked three, out-dueling Eagle hurler Matt Stuart.

 

“He was in command for most of the game,” Sequim coach Dave Ditlefsen said of Campbell. “He was throwing his fastball and curveball for strikes, kept his pitch count low. I normally don’t let him finish a game but he really wanted it.”

 

Sequim was slated to open the West Central District bi-district tourney May 10 against Port Angeles at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds — results of the game were unavailable at press time.

 

With a win, the Wolves play Interlake at 4 p.m. on May 11, while a loss puts Sequim in the consolation bracket to battle four teams for a single class-2A state tournament seed.

Roughriders advance

With a win against their Sequim rivals in the regular season finale on May 2, Port Angeles advanced to the 2A sub-district tournament with the league’s fifth — and final — seed.

 

Port Angeles got a complete game victory from A.J. Konopaski, who struck out 11 batters and gave up just one walk and five hits in the 4-0 Port Angeles win.

 

Ryan Hueter had a double and Isaac Yamamoto reached base twice for Sequim, but it was the Port Angeles ace that shone brightly.

 

With the Wolves’ playoff destiny already set, Sequim’s Yamamoto and Campbell pitched two innings each while Rickerson and Jake Hudson cleaned up on the mound in the final two frames.
