Kaleen Berg scored twice — one goal in each half — and the Edmonds defense held tough to drop the visiting Peninsula Pirates 2-0 on Sept. 17, a match-up of two of the NWAACC’s top teams.

It is the first conference loss for No. 7-ranked Peninsula (1-1-0, 2-2-2).

“We struggled to gain momentum,” Pirate coach Kanyon Anderson said. “We gave up two breakaway goals … (and) missed two great chances to score that came back to haunt us.”

Berg scored at the 12-minute mark and again at 73 minutes. Jennifer Rucker recorded the shutout in goal for No. 5-ranked Edmonds (2-0-0, 6-2-0).

Up next for the Pirates is their first home conference game today, Sept. 21 — game time is 2 p.m. Peninsula hosts Shoreline on Sept. 24.

Pirates shut out Green River

Peninsula defended its No. 7 poll ranking with a 1-0 shutout win against previously undefeated Green River on Sept. 14.

Freshman Aubrey Briscoe scored the first goal of her collegiate career on an assist from Emilia Stefanko 28 minutes into the match.

It was Peninsula’s first shutout of the season.

P.C. outshot the Gators, 14-4.

“We dominated the game,” Anderson said. “We were a little bit more physical and stronger.”
