NWAACC West Division standings
Peninsula        11-1-0 16-1-0
Bellevue         6-4-1    8-5-1
Tacoma 5-6-1           6-7-1
Highline         4-4-3    6-5-4
Olympic 2-5-5    3-6-6
Lo. Columbia 1-8-3     2-10-4

While the rest of the NWAACC's top teams are jockeying for position, No. 1-ranked Peninsula and other division winners get a bit of a respite.

The Pirates clinched a first-round bye with a win against Highline on Saturday, with Bellevue dropping a decision to Olympic the same day.

Kendra Miner and Briana Afoa had a goal and assist each and Sydney Bullington added a tally as P.C. nearly shutout the visiting Thunderbirds; the only Highline score was a late goal from Rebecca Burns.

Peninsula distanced itself from rival Bellevue, runner-up in the West Division, with a 2-0 win in Bellevue on Oct. 17.

Annie Armstrong scored at 22 minutes and Ashlyn Frizzelle added an insurance goal with about three minutes remaining.

Afoa and Brianna Estrellado had assists.

Danae Brooks recorded the shutout.

Peninsula plays at Tacoma on Oct. 27 and at Olympic on Oct. 31 before finishing the regular season with a home match against Bellevue on Nov. 3.

The NWAACC playoffs start Nov. 7, but Peninsula likely plays at home on Nov. 10, with the opponent to be determined.

Afoa named Player of Week

Peninsula's Brianna Afoa was named NWAACC Player of the Week after notching four goals and an assist in less than 45 minutes against Wenatchee Valley on Oct. 13, breaking Peninsula's single-season scoring record.

With Saturday's score, her 14th of the season, Afoa broke Jackie Rodgers' career scoring mark.
