Doubles teams Brandon Payne and Matthew Richards take the No. 2 seed against North Kitsap’s No. 2 team while Jerry Bryan and Eli Berg face Olympic’s No. 1 team.
Victor Lam won the fifth single seed against a player to be determined from North Kitsap. Nick Johnston will play Alex Brown from Port Angeles.
They’ll play Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 23-24, in Poulsbo for a shot at the West Central District III tournament in Bremerton on Nov. 1-2 and Nov. 4.
Leading up to the tournament, Sequim (4-3 in league, 6-6 overall) played three matches in less than a week against Port Angeles and Olympic.
Coach Justine Wagner said she was hoping for more wins to help her players find higher seedings.
The Wolves lost both of their matches to the Roughriders on Oct. 16 and Oct. 18 by 5-2 but won their last match of the year 6-1 against the Trojans.
Wagner said with the Wolves losing two league matches to North Kitsap 4-3 earlier in the season that a repeat league championship wasn’t a possibility this year.
Last year, the teams split their matches but Sequim came out on top.
“This year we didn’t quite get there,” she said.
Going into the last three matches, Wagner said she expected the same consistency from Richards and Payne who have looked strong all season. They won their last three matches convincingly.
In Sequim’s first match against Port Angeles, Victor Lam won 6-4 in two sets and Richards and Payne won the Wolves’ second match 7-5, 6-2. Eli Berg played singles and lost in two close matches 4-6, 5-7.
At Port Angeles, Payne and Richards won again 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) and Berg and Jerry Bryan won 7-6 (7-5), 6-2. Facing the Trojans, Johnston won a tight match 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-4, and all of the varsity squad except Lam won their matches.
