Bowling: Danielson, Funston advance to districts

Two Sequim High bowlers are moving on after earning top-20 marks at the Olympic League tournament in Silverdale on Jan. 18.

Juniors Quinn Danielson and Porter Funston advance to the West Central District tourney on Saturday, Jan. 27, at Pacific Lanes in Tacoma after taking two of the top six individual district qualifying spots at the league tourney. Danielson bowled games of 121, 107 and 122 for a 350-pin total, placing 16th overall and fifth among players whose teams did not advance to districts. Funston bowled a three-game series of 325 pins, 18th overall and sixth among non-qualifying teams.

Sequim placed fifth out of five teams at the league tourney, with Klahowya (2,859 pins) edging out Olympic (2,826) for top league honors. Those two teams, along with third place Bremerton, advance to districts, while North Mason and Sequim squads are eliminated.

Bremerton’s Hannah Sutton took top league individual honors with a 588-pin series (196 average). Olympic’s Samantha Stump was second.

The top three teams and eight bowlers from districts in the 1A/2A classification move on to the state tournament, set for Feb. 1-3 in University Place.
