Madison McKeown is headed to state.

The Sequim High freshman picked perfect timing for her best scores of the season, racking up a 479-pin, three-game series at the West Central District bowling tourney in Tacoma on Jan. 26 to place ninth overall.

McKeown moves on to compete at the 1A/2A state tourney at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place on Feb. 1.

McKeown posted a strong out of the proverbial gate, tying her season-best with a 157-pin first game before a 186-pin second game of 186. She finished with a 136.

She had the highest score for a freshman at districts by more than 50 pins.

Madison Murphy had the top score among McKeown’s teammates at districts with a 361-pin series (115-121-125), followed by Porter Funston’s 327 (115-90-122) and Trinity Henderson’s 304 (118-106-80).

Selah’s Layne Calfrobe took top district honors with a 574-pin series, 50 pins better than runner-up Madison Bonk of Olympic.
