Looking to rebound after a rout at the hands of their peninsula rivals, Sequim got exactly that with a 6-2 non-league win over Mount Tahoma on March 23.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Sequim plated two runs each in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-0 lead, as SHS starter Isabelle Dennis shut down the visiting Thunderbirds. Mount Tahoma mounted a comeback off Sequim reliever LeeAnn Raney with two runs in the sixth, but Raney struck out the final four batters to cap the victory.

Sophomores Kailyn Lopez and Kiana Robideau paced the Sequim offense with two hits each. Sequim coach Tim Lusk lauded freshman Christy Grubb for her defense at second base.

Sequim struggled to find offensive rhythm in a 10-1 loss to Port Angeles at Dry Creek Elementary on March 21.

Roughrider Aeverie Politika had a home run and a two-run single, totaling four RBIs while PA’s Kiana Watson went the distance on the mound, spreading out four hits over seven innings.

Port Angeles scored four runs in the first inning, the big blow a two-run double by Madi Roening. “Sequim is a good team. We really took the wind out of their sails there,” Riders coach Randy Steinman said.

Dennis pitched out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the third inning with a groundout and two fly outs, but Port Angeles tacked on two runs in the fifth inning to increase the Rider lead to 9-0.

“We were just flat, we didn’t come to play,” Lusk said of the Wolves.

“If we had played today like we had played against Forks (a 5-1 Sequim victory on March 14), I think it would have been a real tight game. PA is a great ballclub, I don’t want to take anything away from them.”

Madison Nute had Sequim’s lone RBI.

Earlier in the week, Sequim got big offensive production from nearly the entire lineup in a 9-2 home win over North Mason on March 20.

Dennis, Grubb, Nute, Bobbi Sparks, Latisha Robideau, Lily Fili and Kylynn Stringer each recorded hits for Sequim.

Dennis picked up the win on the mound, allowing one run on two hits in five innings of work.

Stringer pitched the final two innings for the Wolves.
