A pair of wins for Sequim book-ended a loss to league-leading Port Angeles last week, leaving the Wolves in the the thick of the chase for a West Central District playoff berth.

Sequim opened the week with an 8-4 home win over non-league foe Chimacum. Chloie Sparks paced the SHS offense with three hits while teammates Adrienne Haggerty and Latisha Robideau each added two in an 11-hit attack. The Wolves scored three runs in the third inning and again in the fourth to take the lead for good. Shelby Jones went the distance on the mound for the win.

Sequim played well on defense, head coach Tim Lusk noted, after not committing an error.

On April 26, Port Angeles laid claim to its 30th consecutive league win with an 8-1 win over Sequim in Port Angeles.

Sequim trailed just 2-1 through three innings before the Roughriders, on their way to a third straight league title, blew it open.

“Sequim played solid defense to keep them in the game,” Port Angeles coach Randy Steinman said. “(SHS starter) Isabelle Dennis kept the PA batters off balance early in the game but (we) finally got the bats going and erupted for 14 hits.”

PA’s Sierra Robinson went 3-for-4 with a stolen base, a run and an RBI for the Riders, while Natalie Steinman hit a three-run home run.

Chloie and Bobbi Sparks, Haggery and Shelby Wells accounted for Sequim’s four hits.

Sequim rebounded nicely with a 10-0 blanking of Kingston on the road on April 28. Jones went the distance on the mound, giving up just two hits and striking out eight Bucs. Haggerty went 3-for-4, Dennis was 2-for-3 with a triple, and Chloie Sparks went 2-for-4 with a double.

Looking ahead

Sequim was slated to be at Bremerton on May 1.

The Wolves are at Coupeville on May 4 and Olympic on May 8 before hosting Coupeville. A May 11 showdown with North Kitsap — a makeup for a game originally scheduled for April 29 — closes out Sequim’s regular season.
