Girls basketball: Wolves fall to Lindbergh in district opener

Despite a loss to open the postseason, Sequim High’s girls basketball squad has a chance to extend its season.

The Wolves opened the West Central District tournament Feb. 10 with a 47-35 loss to Lindbergh at Wilson High School in Tacoma.

Sequim looks to keep its season alive when the Wolves take on the Fife Trojans at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Wilson High.

Lindbergh, who came into the game with the district’s eighth seed, jumped out to leads of 9-5 after one quarter, 24-15 by halftime and 39-19 after three quarters before Sequim, the district’s 12th seed, clipped the Eagles’ lead late.

Adrienne Haggerty led Sequim with 17 points and fellow senior Ella Christiansen added nine. Madison Green (five points) and Hope Glasser (four) rounded out SHS’s scoring.

Elle Watts, a 6-foot sophomore who led the Eagles during the regular season, paced Lindbergh with 22 points, eight above her season average. Angela Arzaga added nine points.

The district game was postponed one day after winter weather forced the closure of the Hood Canal Bridge.

Fife, Sequim’s next opponent, is 15-9 and led by the 13.3-points-per-game average of junior guard Christina Willis.

With a win on Feb. 15, Sequim would take on either Eatonville or Olympic on Feb. 17 at Curtis High School, with the winner taking the sixth and final district seed to the regional tournament.
