Girls Bowling: Staus finishes 36th at state bowling meet

Sequim’s Destiny Staus placed 36th at the 1A/2A state bowling tournament on Feb. 2, at Narrows Plaza Bowl in University Place.

Head coach Randy Perry said Staus was placed 22nd through three games shooting a 136, 146 and 150. Her last three games of 115, 136 and 120 gave her an 803 finish.

Mark Morris’ Brooklyn Boudreau finished in first for the tournament with 1,202 while Staus’ Olympic League opponents Ashlyn Jamrog of Olympic finished second with 1,175 pins over six games and Bremerton’s Hannah Sutton finished second with 1,163 pins.

Staus is the highest finisher from Sequim since Sam Whiteside finished 31st in 2010 with an 881. She’s also the first Sequim bowler to compete at state since Sage Brown placed 39th in 2011 who also bowled an 881.

To make state, Staus finished eighth among 1A/2A finishers at the West Central Districts III on Saturday, Jan. 28, in Tacoma.
