Girls swimming: Sequim swims past PT for second win

Within the comforts of their home pool, Sequim routed the Redhawks from Port Townsend.

The Wolves won nine events in a 117-54 win on Sept. 27, sweeping the three relay events.

Lauren Sundin won two events: the 200 individual medley with a time of 2 minutes, 52.18 seconds and the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:22.60.

Mia Coffman took top honors in the 500 freestyle with a state-qualifying mark of 5:41.62, while teammate Anna Price won the 100 backstroke in 1:17.43.

Jasmine Itti won the 50 freestyle in 26.28, just one-tenth of a second short of qualifying for state. Sonja Govertsen won the 100 freestyle with a 57.74-second mark.

Among the relay teams, the 200 freestyle relay team of Itti, Govertsen, Meguire Vandervelde, Coffman won with a time of 1:43.31 — off a state-qualifying time by 0.8 of a second.

The 200 medley relay team of Coffman, Itti, Govertsen and Heidi Schmitt won with a time of 2:05.94 and the 400 freestyle relay team of Itti, Govertsen, Vandervelde and Coffman with a time of 4:06.18.

Looking ahead

Sequim hosts league-leading North Kitsap on Oct. 4.

The Wolves are at 1A Klahowya (Silverdale) on Oct. 11 before hosting their final league meet of the season, an Oct. 18 match-up with Bremerton.

The postseason begins with a Divisional Invitational in Port Angeles on Oct. 23.

Qualified swimmers compete at the West Central District meet set for Nov. 2-3 at Hazen High School in Renton.

The state 2A swim/dive finals are set for Nov. 9-10 in Federal Way.
