Girls tennis: Sequim sweeps Riders, Eagles

A pair of sweeps have the Sequim Wolves perfect on the young spring season.

Sequim opened with a 7-0 home win over Port Angeles on March 13.

Winning each match in straight sets, Sequim saw its only challenge when PA’s Hannah Reetz pressed Olivia Preston in the first set, a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 Preston victory.

Isabelle Hugoniot dominated her match at No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rider Kaulei Droz.

Jessica Dietzman and Kalli Wiker, the state 2A doubles runner-up combo, picked up right where they left off with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Port Angeles’ Camryn Mason and Casandra Shamp, while Sequim’s McKenna Hastings and Ashley Rosales routed Emily Rygaard and Abby Sanders 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles action.

Two days later versus 1A Klahowya, Sequim again dominated, losing just seven total games and winning five of seven matches by 6-0, 6-0 counts.

Eagle Taylor Bruce put up a fight versus Hugoniot in No. 1 singles play before the Sequim senior won, 6-2, 6-4. Emily Bundy and Eden Johnson had singles wins.

Winning in doubles play were Dietzman and Wiker, Hastings and Rosales, Arlene Law and Melissa Porter, and Amanda He and Kayli Prorok.

Sequim (3-0) added a 6-1 win at Chimacum on March 18; details were not available at press time.
