Girls tennis: Wolves rout Eagles, stay perfect on season

With their match against rival Port Angeles rained out, Sequim had just one match in the week returning from spring break. The Wolves made the most of it.

Sequim knocked off 1A Klahowya on April 11 in Silverdale, a 7-0 sweep that saw the Wolves earn all straight set victories and maintain their undefeated record (9-0) for the season.

Kalli Wiker picked up a win in No. 1 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Taylor Bruce while Jessica Dietzman topped Anna Wells 6-0, 6-1 in No. 2 singles. Amanda He added a win in No. 3 singles play, 6-2 and 6-2 over Kristen Powell.

In No. 1 doubles play, McKenna Hastings and Ashley Rosales topped Klahowya’s Emma Heckert and Madita Schoenberge 6-1, 6-0, while Isabelle Hugoniot and Olivia Preston teamed up for the first time this season to win at No. 2 doubles, topping Eagles Hannah Catt and Kelisha Harris 6-0, 6-2. Also earning doubles wins for Sequim were Emily Bundy-Arlene Law and Eden Johnson-Melissa Porter.

Sequim was scheduled to host Chimacum on April 15 — results were not available at press time.

Looking ahead

Sequim is at Kingston on April 17 and North Mason on April 22.

The Wolves close the regular season with three home matches: April 24 vs. North Kitsap, April 26 vs. Bremerton and April 29 vs. Olympic, before the Olympic League tourney set for May 10-11 in Bremerton.

The West Central District tourney is May 17-18 in Bremerton.
