Both Wolves golf squads look strong midway through the season with their consistent play putting them in league championship contention and possible top spots at districts and state.

The boys (3-1 in league) and girls (4-0) defeated North Kitsap at home on April 8 and April 10 at North Mason’s Lakeland Village Golf Course. Jack Shea paced the Wolves in windy and wet conditions to shoot a 77 on 18 holes at The Cedars at Dungeness and an 80 in North Mason.

At home, Sequim swept the top spots with Alex McCracken and Travis Priest both shooting an 85 followed by Jesse Francis’ 87, Anthony Pinza’s 88 and Henry Markham’s 90.

The Vikings’ Riley Snook led North Kitsap golfers with a 104.

Boys coach Bill Shea said the Wolves never played the North Mason course before, but they still won 470-513 behind Jack Shea tying the Bulldogs’ Josh Frederickson at 80 on 18 holes. North Mason’s Andy Renne came in third with an 84 while McCracken shot a 92, Pinza 93, Priest 100 and Francis 105.

The girls remain undefeated in Olympic League play behind stellar shooting from Alex McMenamin. She led the Wolves and all opponent players to shoot a 41 on April 8 and a 49 on April 10 in nine hole matches. Brianna Kettel came in second both matches to shoot a 54 and 48.

Girls coach Garret Smithson said he’s extremely happy with the golfers now and he’s seeing them improve every time including a team score low of 258 at home. Megan O’Mera shot a 58 and 56 between the two matches and Kailee Price shot a 61 and 59 and Cecilee Wech a 66 and 54.

The boys and girls host Port Townsend next Tuesday, April 22.
