Gymnastics: NK edges PA-Sequim-Crescent squad in final meet

Local prep gymnasts on the Port Angeles High team got their final warm up before the postseason begins in a 146-140 loss at North Kitsap on Jan. 24.

Sequim’s Emma Sharp earned the team’s top score with 30.15 points to place second in all-around scoring. She won the beam competition with 8.6 points, placed second on the floor (8.55 points) and was fourth on the vault (8.2).

Sequim’ Lesae Pfeffer was fourth on the floor exercise (7.95 points), sixth on the beam (7.8), seventh on the vault (7.9).

SHS freshman Danica Pierson was seventh on the bars (5.45 points).

The team’s next meet is the 2A/3A Olympic-PCL-SSC subdistricts, held at the Auburn Gymnastics Center in DuPont on Thursday, Feb. 7. The Port Angeles team will be split into teams from Port Angeles, Sequim and Crescent for the postseason.

Also competing at the meet with be North Kitsap, Kingston, Capital, Bonney Lake, North Thurston and Timberline.

Two full teams, eight individuals per event and four top all-around scorers move on to districts, set for Feb. 16 at Mount Rainier High School in Des Moines.
