Gymnastics: Pfeffer, three Riders advance to state

Sequim and Port Angeles high school gymnasts are finishing their season at the prep pinnacle.

SHS’s Lesea Pfeffer joins PA’s Maizie Tucker, Julienne Jacobs, Cassandra Middlestead and Cassidy Tamburro at the state 1A/2A/3A meet this weekend after earning berths at the West Central District III meet at Auburn Mountainview High School on Feb. 10.

Pfeffer, a sophomore, placed 10th in the vault with a score of 7.725. She also qualified on the balance beam for state with a 7.9, placing 13th. She was 28th on the floor exercise with a 7.0.

Middlestead qualified in all four individual events, placing in the top 10 in three. She was sixth on bars (7.10), eighth in the floor exercise (8.675) and ninth on beam (8.30). Her efforts placed her seventh in all-around scoring (31.475).

The Roughriders’ three other qualifiers earned one state berth each: Jacobs on the floor exercise (7.60), Tamburro in the bars (6.175 district score) and Tucker on vault (7.40).

Capital won the district meet with 150.9 team points, with Kingston second (146.4), Renton third (127.325) and Highline fourth (123.975). Capital and Kingston advance their teams to the state meet, held in Tacoma Feb. 15-17.
