Local anglers prep meeting, set Kids Fishing Day date

The featured speaker at the next Puget Sound Anglers-North Olympic Peninsula Chapter meeting on Thursday, Dec. 20, at at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., is local tackle manufacturer James Beasley, CEO-owner of Wicked Lures.

Beasley will show members and visitors how to use Wicked Lures for fresh and salt water fishing. Wicked Lures offer lures for salmon, trout, steelhead and bass (see www.wicked lures.com). Jerry Wright of Jerry’s Bait and Tackle will also be on hand to sell the lures at a discount.

The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. for viewing the raffle prizes and fish stories. The featured speaker presentation starts at 7 p.m., followed by a business meeting that includes a financial report, government relations report, upcoming events discussions and fishing reports from members.

Also on tap are refreshments, a raffle for fishing gear and a membership drawing (must be present to win).

Fish on

The club, which meets the third Thursday of each month at Trinity United, announced that members are putting about 400 more trout in the Water Reclamation Pond just north of Carrie Blake Community Park for area youths to fish.

The anglers group has set April 13, 2019, for the annual Kids Fishing Day. The date was moved to April to better ensure water conditions for the fish (it was traditionally held in mid-May but warm weather conditions forced the cancellation of the 2018 event).

Fall trout planting has been so popular, club members said, that they will only plant 2,000 fish in April and save the remainder to parcel out in fall and winter months.
