The Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association recently celebrated its 10th anniversary by holding its very first John Halberg Memorial Scrimmage. Rowers from all OPRA programs — juniors, varsity, novice, recreational and masters — raced in 1200-meter head style races out in front of the group’s boathouse on Ediz Hook, honoring Halberg, a founder of the rowing program. This scrimmage was the first of many to come with the goal of turning this event into a full-scale regatta with rowing crews from all over the region being invited to attend, association officials said.
